Marcus Ehning winst the CSI3* Finale at Knokke Hippique with his Stargold (v. Stakkato Gold). The second place went to Brazilian Marlon Modolo Zanotelli with Diarca PS and Belgian rider Jos Verlooy took third on his home turf with Fabregas.

In was the very last line – towards the Ghelmaco-double – that proved to be tricky to many combinations. Ludo Philippaerts and the nine-year-old BWP-gelding Mr. Idol S (v. Plot Blue) was the first to stay clear in the CSI3* 1,50 meter Grand Prix at Knokke Hippique. The British rider Sienna Charles followed him a little while later, steering her Controe (v. Wender R) towards the finish line in 68,23 seconds.

It took until after the first break before the next lot of participants managed to qualify for the jump-off: Pieter Devos and his chestnut mare MoM’s Isaura (v. Tinka’s Boy) remained without faults in 70,72 seconds, staying just clear of the 72 second cut off. Also Marcus Ehning and Stargold (v. Stakkato Gold), Nicola Philippaerts with Moya v/d Bisschop (v. Darco) and Charlotte Bettendorf and Nababette Z (v. Nabab de Reve) secured a place in the jump-off. As did the Brazilian rider Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and Diarca PS (v. Diarado), Henrik von Eckermann and Hollywood V (v. Mylord Carthago HN), Kevin Staut and Dialou Blue PS, Jos Verlooy and Fabregas (v. Zambesi), Karel Cox and Kill Bill Max (v. Toulon), Cian O’Connor and PSG Final (v. Toulon) and Eduardo Pereira De Menezes with H5 Quintol (v. Quintender 2). With Max Kühner and Eic Cooley Jump The Q (v. Jump-off

Ludo Philippaerts was the first to start with Mr. Idol S, making a wonderful turn towards fence 15, but taking down three unfortunate poles along the way. Luck wasn’t on Sienna Charles’ side either, finishing with 8 penalties.

Pieter Devos, who was giving it his all, took down the third-to-last fence with MoM’s Isaura and ended up finishing in ninth place. The German genius Marcus Ehning showed his competitors how it’s done: he rode his Stargold to a gorgeous smooth and fast round, finishing faultless in 37,39 seconds. Nicola Philippaerts’s Moya v/d Bisschop left all but two fences up, finishing eleventh in 42,11 seconds. The same result went to Charlotte Bettendorf and Nabette Z, although she was quite a bit quicker: 38,11 seconds. The rider from Luxembourg finished in a tenth place.

Marlon Modolo Zanotelli showed a beautiful clear round with Diarca PS, going around in 38,12 seconds, ending just behind Ehning.

The Swede Henrik von Eckermann and Hollywood V unfortunately took the last fence down. Kevin Staut and Dialou Blue PS wrote down a similar result, ending on the scoreboard with 4 penalties behind his name.

A very long distance towards fence 9 gave Belgian rider Jos Verlooy and Fabregas a advantage towards his fellow competitors, but he wasn’t quite quick enough as the German master. Karel Cox remained faultless as well, but took his Kill Bill Max for an easy round, finishing in 44,21 seconds. Cian O’Connor didn’t start and Eduardo Pereira De Menezes took down a pole. All was in the hands of the final competitor Max Kühner, who stayed clear but decided to follow Karel Cox’s lead and went for an easy round.

With that the victory went to Marcus Ehning, with Marlon Modolo Zanotelli finishing second and Jos Verlooy ending in third place.
